Jose Diaz, who is tied for 4th in the NC with a 3.63 ERA, imposed his will on the Princes from the get-go. Relying mainly on his cutter, the right-hander spearheaded the 5-1 Whitby triumph. Diaz, now 4-2, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing no runs. With the win, the Bats improved to 42-26.

Whitby got a lift in the bottom of the first from center fielder Arturo Tinoco, who hit a fastball to left for a 2-run double. His 2nd double of the season put the Bats up, 2-0.

"We certainly don't want to get used to losing," said losing manager Jorge Vasquez.
