6-4 Win Takes Pirates to 51-9
|
Buffalo got a terrific game from center fielder Cesar Ornelas. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Saint Pierre and Miquelon, 6-4. Ornelas went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winning pitcher was Jose Navarro. His record now stands at 5-3. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits for the Pirates. Chase Harriger closed out the game, earning his 14th save.
Saint Pierre and Miquelon used the hitting of Sam Paiva to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Pirates on top, 6-4. For the game, Paiva had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"This is truly a great team to play with," Paiva said after the game. "We're like brothers, and when we come together to pull out the win, that just makes it all the better."
Saint Pierre and Miquelon, at 51-9, occupies first place in the Northern Conference West Division.
