Bats Make Rockers 3-1 Losers
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Madison Grounds. But 20-year old catcher Sam Neeley produced just enough offense to carry the Bats past the Plymouth Rockers, 3-1. Neeley was 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk. The winner in relief was David Damian. He is now 3-2. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. The win hiked the Whitby record to 28-24.
The Bats got a big at-bat from left fielder Ahmed Joiner. For the game, Joiner went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Whitby a 2-0 lead.
Neeley attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
