Pirates Score Late to Nip Cubs, 5-4
|
Franklin got a decent performance from pitcher Ruben Lopez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Saint Pierre and Miquelon Pirates. Saint Pierre and Miquelon won the Spinners Ballpark contest, 5-4. Lopez threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The Pirates improved to 42-7.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Saint Pierre and Miquelon second baseman Justin Phelps, facing Jim Unknown, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Pirates the 5-4 win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Phelps.
