Newport News Grabs DS Opener, 3-1

The 20-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Carson City Miners worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Victor Meza seemed like a risky move for the Miners, but it was one of the few things that went right at Wranglers Stadium. Meza tossed 6.2 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Carson City dropped a 3-1 decision. With the win, Newport News took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Division Series.
Newport News took control in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and a runner on 2nd, Chad Tatum hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Wranglers.
Newport News manager Adam Tate commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wranglers Stadium in Newport News.
