The Moncton Mounties got a strong performance from pitcher Byron Bruce, who stymied the Whitby offense en route to a 4-2 win in Game 2 of the League Championship Series. The Bats could never get a bead on the right-handed Bruce, who threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball. The Mounties now hold a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 series.

Moncton used the timely hitting of David Raney to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mounties on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We aren't quitting," Whitby manager David Sawyers said. "Yeah, the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've got to earn it."

Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Mapleton Yards in Moncton.
