Game 5 was big. So was Jon Kwait.

In leading Santa Rosa to a crucial 10-2 victory over the Glace Bay Miners at Keelhaulers Ballpark, the Santa Rosa starter rose to the occasion, tossing 7 good innings. Kwait threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs as the Desperados defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Collin Mays took Glace Bay hurler Larry Weese deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Desperados on top, 2-0. In all, Mays had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.

"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Mays said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
