League Championship Series Game 1 Goes to Huntsville, Thanks to Hartfield
|
The Huntsville Rockets started the League Championship Series in style, downing the visiting Grand Rapids Jet Hawks at Ballpark of Austin by a score of 5-2 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Rockets first baseman Chris Hartfield was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Hartfield delivered big-time for Huntsville, stroking a dramatic 3-run home run off Eddie Clickner. The game-changing hit put the Rockets on top, 5-2.
Said losing manager Sadayuki Nishikawa: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Austin in Huntsville.
