Critical Game 5 Goes to Host Chargers, 3-1
|
Game 5 was big. So was Justin Hesley.
In leading Terra Linda to a crucial 3-1 victory over the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes at Ballpark of Plantersville, the Terra Linda starter rose to the occasion, tossing 6 good innings. Hesley threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball as the Chargers defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 World Series.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Chargers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when left fielder Bill Bandy hit a 3-run home run. The home run came off Dave Anderson and made the score 3-1, Chargers. Bandy went 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"I'm happy we won," said Hesley. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
Game 6 is scheduled for Monday at Earthquakes Stadium in Ft. Wayne.
