The Medford Desperados started the League Championship Series in style, winning on the road against the Little Rock Golden Gophers at Little Rock Grounds by a score of 5-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Desperados right-hander Marty Matthews threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball.

With no one out in the top of the fifth, Joe Marotta barreled up a fastball from Nick Kern. The result was a solo home run, putting the Desperados in front, 3-1.

"We did a lot of really good things and it was a good win," said Desperados manager Noah Alexander.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Little Rock Grounds in Little Rock.
