Golden Bears Cruise to Elite 8 with Sweep
|
On paper, the California Golden Bears will be credited with a 2-0 sweep of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Sweet 16, to advance to the Elite 8.
In reality, said starting pitcher Josh Riddick, it was a lot harder-fought than that might suggest.
"They are a great team and although we won every game, it wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination," he said.
California won the final game by a 2-1 score at Stu Gordon Stadium.
Riddick earned series MVP honors for the Golden Bears, with a 0.00 ERA over 7.1 innings pitched. He also had a 1-0 record and 6 strikeouts.
The California Golden Bears will play against the Michigan Wolverines in the next round. Michigan won their series against the Nebraska Cornhuskers 2 games to 0. The Elite 8 schedule will be announced after the Sweet 16 finishes.
