The Little Rock Golden Gophers had to overcome a good performance from Waco pitcher Chris Childress to claim a 3-2 win at Little Rock Grounds. Childress went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Marcos Patino, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. With the loss, Waco falls to 2-7.

Matt Dean took Waco hurler Mario Acosta deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Golden Gophers on top, 3-2. In all, Dean had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"That's what makes it fun -- everybody's jacked up because of the way we've been winning," said Little Rock manager Jose Moreno.
