Starting pitcher Mike Martinez gave the Moncton Mounties a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Abingdon Archers, 3-2, at Reagor Dykes Stadium. Moncton reliever Chris Gabbitas picked up the win, upping his record to 4-4. Jim Unknown was saddled with the loss. Matt Schmidt, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 7th save.
Moncton used the timely hitting of Dave Reisinger to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mounties on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Martinez.
Moncton is now 22-24.
