The Long Island Torpedoes tallied a win at Super Solarplex, throttling the Moriarty Suns, 3-1. Starting pitcher Geert Brown was a big reason for his team's success. Brown, now 4-2, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. T.J. Hoffarth closed it out for his 16th save.
Long Island used the timely hitting of Ben Pendergrass to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Torpedoes on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"This was a tough loss," said Moriarty manager Ron Kunkleman. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
The third-place Torpedoes are 27-17.
