Whitby Bats starter Marty Matthews turned in an exceptional performance against the Borrego Springs Rams at Eláguila Stadia, resulting in a Whitby win, 2-1. Matthews yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 5-2. Ruben Espinoza earned save number 4 this season.

Matt Sikes, who is tied for 8th in the NC in stolen bases with 6, took Borrego Springs hurler Mike Pistorio deep in the bottom of the fifth. His solo home run put the Bats on top, 2-1. In all, Sikes had 2 singles in addition to the home run, while going 3 for 4.

"For the most part, I felt like I did a pretty good job with executing the pitches I was throwing," said Matthews.
