The Whitby Bats took Franklin pitcher Jim Stuppy's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Franklin Park. The final score had Whitby getting past the Cubs, 5-4. Stuppy went 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 3. Raffaello Erbetto closed the game out for Whitby, earning his 2nd save. The second-place Bats are now 29-9, the Cubs 10-28.
Whitby used a clutch at-bat from Sean Custis to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Bats ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Custis said.
