Bats Rally Late to Clip Buffalo
|
The Whitby Bats did just enough to sneak past the Buffalo Bellflowers, 2-1, at Wegman's Field. Whitby pitcher Josh Poehlein, in particular, had a standout performance. Ruben Espinoza sewed up the save, his 3rd. The loss makes Buffalo 23-9.
Whitby used the hitting of Matt Sikes to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bats on top, 2-1. For the game, Sikes had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Poehlein attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
