Torpedoes Knock Off Cubs at Centerville Grounds
|
The Long Island Torpedoes scored a tight 3-2 win versus the Franklin Cubs at Centerville Grounds. Long Island pitcher Julio Mora held his own in the contest. Mora, now 5-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. At 20-11, the Torpedoes claim third place in the Northern Conference East Division.
Long Island took a 3-0 lead on Larry Keller's 5th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Franklin pitcher Armando Roman in the bottom of the seventh.
"Bottom line," said Franklin skipper Alec Roller, "we didn't play well enough to win."
