Terra Linda beat Long Island on the strength of starting pitcher Omar Valentin's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. Larry Weese sewed up the save, his 1st. Terra Linda now has a record of 17-9.
Brian Gates had a big 3-run home run for the Chargers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Terra Linda trailing 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Steve Quintero, who is tied for 2nd in the NC in strikeouts with 40, and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 7th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Chargers ahead, 3-2.
"I put my work in and trusted the process," said Valentin.
