With third baseman Curt Lirette leading the charge, the Franklin Cubs defeated the Long Island Torpedoes, 8-5, at Franklin Park. Lirette, who is tied for 10th in the NC in hits with 21, went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Mike Bruce was the winner. He's now 3-0. The loser was 18-year old right-handed pitcher Alex Almanza. Jim Unknown closed the door for Franklin, picking up his 1st save of the year.

Bob Sallee helped out the Franklin cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the second baseman drew 2 walks in 4 plate appearances. He scored 2 times.
