Colonels Deal Torpedoes 5-1 Loss
|
The Tiverton Colonels beat the Long Island Torpedoes, 5-1. Tiverton pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Jon Cordova led the way. The Torpedoes, now 6-14, continue their slow start.
Hunter McConnon had a big 2-run home run for the Colonels in the top of the fifth inning. With Tiverton leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 17-year old right-handed pitcher Danny Guajardo and swatted a home run to right. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Colonels ahead, 3-0.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Tiverton manager Dave Maloney.
