Torpedoes Earn Clutch Win, 2-1
|
The Long Island Torpedoes eked out a 2-1 win versus the Abingdon Archers at Chupacabras Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Ivan Sanchez. He was terrific. The winner was Sanchez. He threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Jim Unknown. Saturnino Canejo finished to wrap up his 2nd save.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, David Jones was at the plate when Long Island scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Torpedoes to go in front, 2-1.
"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Sanchez.
To call the performance of the 1-12 Archers woeful so far is an understatement.
