Rockers Pull Out Late-Game Win, 2-1
The home crowd had a good time watching the Whitby Bats and Plymouth Rockers get after it.

The Plymouth Rockers, despite a fine performance by Whitby pitcher Ramiro Solis, grabbed a 2-1 win at Madison Grounds. Solis allowed 1 run over 6.1 innings. Jim Unknown, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings.

A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Rockers sent teenager Dave Maser to the plate against Bats hurler Ramiro Solis. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a first pitch fastball to score 1.

"If we keep winning the close games," Maser said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."

The loss drops Whitby to 5-6.
