Pirates Send Tiverton Home with 7-4 Loss
|
Behind a solid performance from third baseman Tom Modell, the Saint Pierre and Miquelon Pirates defeated the Tiverton Colonels, 7-4. Modell was 2-3 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3 for the Pirates. Juan Alvarez picked up the win, lifting his record to 2-0 on the season. He struck out 2 and walked 1 in 6 innings, while yielding 2 runs. Evan Sippel was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save.
Jose Corona had a big solo home run for the Pirates in the top of the second inning. With Saint Pierre and Miquelon leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a changeup from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Jim Unknown and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pirates ahead, 2-0.
"I felt good up there," said Modell. "I saw the ball well."
With the win, Saint Pierre and Miquelon elevates its record to 5-3.
